Real estate has been one of the most empowering tools, helping me build wealth, create community, and enjoy life to its fullest. Combining my personal investing background with over a decade of experience as a real estate professional, I offer compassion, knowledge, and proven strategies to guide my clients through their own real estate journeys.
In my early 20s, I was living in Newport Beach California and buying a home simply wouldn’t have been possible for years. I saw how important real estate was to build wealth. My boyfriend, Matt (now husband) and I shared the same goals. So, we packed up our lives and headed to Arizona.
Within a year of moving to Arizona we bought our first home. One day we were driving around, young, broke, and looking at model homes for fun when we stumbled on this neighborhood in Gilbert called Agritopia. It was this quirky, village-style area with an organic farm and a real sense of community. We fell in love with it, but it was a stretch financially and we had just bought our first home. We asked a family member to help us with a down payment. They said “yes” and that helped us build our dream home.
That first house was just the beginning. When we were ready to move, instead of selling, we rented out our first home, and suddenly, we were landlords at 25. We worked multiple jobs to help us grow our portfolio, buying a new property nearly every year. It was a mixture of luck, timing, and strategy. We knew the level of risk we were willing to take, and it worked out very well for us. We were even able to sell one of our properties to get a second home in Flagstaff. It was a huge achievement for our family.
When I reflect on what real estate has done for our lives, I see its true potential. It creates stability, financial security, and opportunity. It is an invaluable tool that can be used to achieve so many different goals, whether it’s building generational wealth, buying your dream home, or having flexibility when life changes unexpectedly.
I’ve been a licensed real estate agent since 2014, and have been working with clients ever since, but it took a few life changes for me to officially become a full-time agent. My career background spans working as a paralegal and legal assistant, gaining a strong foundation in negotiations, contracts, and having a high attention to detail. From there I went on to lead a nonprofit for eight years, teaching me so much about leadership, community building, creative problem-solving, and managing complex projects with limited resources.
With two girls, Winter and Cora, I was ready to focus more on family and be more involved in their events and activities. I stepped away from the nonprofit, planning to have a year off. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned about myself, it’s that I’m not good at sitting still. Before I knew it, a great opportunity came my way to buy an office space, and from there, I created an executive suites business called Darwin’s Desk.
During that time, people kept reaching out to me for help with real estate. I was getting referral after referral without promoting myself. It finally clicked. There was a real demand for honest, caring real estate services. Real estate had personally changed my life, and I had devoted years to studying it and becoming an expert in investments and strategies. It became crystal clear: this was the path I was meant to take.
Today, real estate is my full-time career. What I love most about this business is the relationships. Most of my clients are friends, family, or come from referrals. I get to show up for my people and be a reliable resource and trusted guide through one of life’s most pivotal experiences. I’m grateful for everyone who has made this new chapter possible.
In my free time, I compete in amateur ballroom dancing, host themed parties for friends and neighbors, and love interior design. I also stay active in the community through Arizona Urban Agriculture Foundation board and being part of the Chambers of Commerce in both Gilbert and Flagstaff.
We split our time between Gilbert and Flagstaff, and I serve both markets. They’re very different communities. Gilbert is suburban, part of one of the largest metro areas in the country, while Flagstaff is a small, mountainous college town with a lot of character, surrounded by trees and high country. In Flagstaff, there’s a strong second-home and vacation rental market, with many people coming up from the Valley to escape the heat or enjoy snow sports in the winter. In Gilbert, I often work with families, whether that is first homes, upsizing, or finding the dream home. Understanding the nuances of both markets allows me to tailor my approach and provide the right guidance for each client’s situation.
My approach centers around relationships and being a true resource for my clients. I don’t see myself as just a transaction agent. I want to be the person you can trust for anything related to your home, whether that’s finding a contractor, giving design advice, or just helping you navigate the stress of moving. I listen closely to what people want and need, and I love matching them with the right property and neighborhood, especially first-time buyers or those relocating to a new area. I’m hands-on, high-touch, and willing to go the extra mile, whether that means helping with logistics, negotiating creatively, or just making sure my clients feel supported every step of the way. I love staying in touch with my clients and being a trusted resource and friend that you can always count on.
Sincerely,
Katie Critchley
